Chaos(カオス Kaosu?) is the God of Destruction who has a special affinity to the Chaos Emeralds. In the distant past, Chaos was a humble Chao before the prolonged exposure to the Master Emerald caused it to mutate.[1] The translucent, liquid formed creature soon adopted the role of guardian of the Emerald Shrine and its Chao brethren. However, peace within the Emerald Shrine was disrupted by the invasion of the Knuckles Clan and their leader, Chief Pachacamac. Due to their lust for power of the Chaos Emeralds, the echidna tribe slaughtered many innocent Chao in their path. Witnessing the devastation causes Chaos to be enraged and began obliterating the echidna race. Before he was sealed inside the Master Emerald by Tikal the Echidna, Chaos reconstructed the island and all the eight Emeralds in it to the sky.

Over a millennia later, Dr.Eggman discovers the ancient tablets about Chaos and releases him from the bind of the Master Emerald. It initially agrees to the doctor's deal of following his orders in exchange of all seven Chaos Emeralds. However, when Chaos obtained the gemstones, he absorbs all of its negative energy and betrays Dr.Eggman. Chaos quickly transforms into Perfect Chaos and begins its destructive path. It is soon defeated by Sonic, whom used the positive energy of the depleted Chaos Emeralds to transform into Super Sonic and released all the negative energy from Chaos. Other than its debut in Sonic Adventure, Chaos only reappeared occasionally as a playable character in games like Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Battle. In Sonic Battle, Chaos briefly appears in the final story of the game. Knuckles states that Chaos emerges if there is a certain crisis; such as upcoming disaster upon Earth.

Chaos Forms

Each time Chaos absorbs a Chaos Emerald, he transforms into a stronger variant. Below lists and describes all the physical phases he becomes.

Chaos 0.

Chaos 0(Zero)

Chaos 0 is Chaos' default form without any Chaos Emeralds absorbed. It is also the form it reverts back to after it is defeated as Perfect Chaos. Sonic battles Chaos 0 in Station Square at the beginning of Sonic Adventure. Chaos is seen in this same iteration in Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle (as an extra 2P character), and Sonic Battle (as an optional character.)

Chaos 1.

Chaos 1

Chaos 1 is the result of Chaos absorbing one Chaos Emerald. In Sonic Adventure, he is seen in this form in a cutscene after the player battles the Egg Hornet. He is taller, and grows bones in his right arm. However, no characters fight him in this form.

Chaos 2.

Chaos 2

Chaos 2 is when Chaos absorbs two Chaos Emeralds. He maintains the same height, but with additional bones on both arms. He can produce energy shield to protect himself from attacks and can transform into a huge ball of bouncing water. Knuckles is the only character to battle Chaos 2 in Sonic Adventure.

Chaos 4.

Chaos 4

Chaos 4 is the result of Chaos absorbing two Chaos Emeralds at once instead one at a time. In this form, he has a fish-like appearance and can swim and attack from a distance by discharging energy waves. In Sonic Adventure, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles all battle Chaos 4 in a small pond in Mystic Ruins. Chaos 4 swims around trying to knock the player off of lily pads in the pond.

Chaos 6.

Chaos 6

Chaos 6 forms of Chaos absorbing two additional Chaos Emeralds like it did previously. He becomes a bulb-shaped figure with a tail and walks on four stubby legs. He attacks with his tail and causes giant shock waves by jumping up and down. Chaos 6 also attempts to draw his opponent into his mouth, which functions similar to the suction of a vacuum. However, it is also a vital weakness the player can take advantage by throwing 'freeze bombs' into his mouth. In Sonic Adventure, Sonic, Knuckles, and Big all battle Chaos 6 atop the Egg Carrier. The rules does vary if the player is Big the Cat. The player must aim for the target marker on Chaos' body and cast their lure to fish out Froggy.

Perfect Chaos.

Perfect Chaos

Perfect Chaos is formed when Chaos absorbs all seven Chaos Emeralds. In this form, Chaos is almost invincible. Perfect Chaos has the appearance of a snake-like creature and its height is equal to a skyscraper. He attacks by shooting huge energy beams and generating tornadoes to impede those in his path. In Sonic Adventure, Super Sonic is the only one to face Perfect Chaos as he destroys Station Square.
