Fog Machines are devices created by Dr.Eggman in Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games for the Nintendo 3DS. The Fog Machines are egg-shaped colored in red, gray, yellow, and black with four standing legs. At the top of each one is a spewer with a fan that spreads fog. Dr.Eggman also invented holograms of these machines to hide and protect the real ones. Its purpose is to spread the Phantasmal Fog from the machine's powerful variant; Master Fog Machine.

The main weapon used by Dr.Eggman and Bowser to stop the Olympics, the Phantasmal Fog was originally contained in a 300 year old urn. During that time, it is said to be stolen from Stonehenge by a legendary pirate named William Kidd. When authorities caught Captain Kidd, they gave the urn to the British Museum. But around the events of the game, someone stole it from the museum. Due to the fog being magically sealed away, no one knew its true value. A curse was made on the urn of creating imposters of others as a method to prevent theft.

The Phantasmal Fog's capabilities are mind-control from inhaling its fog, technology interference, and power increase to the Sculptures. Besides the air thickness and lighting it releases, it is also difficult to inhale for smaller people like Toad. The only known victim of the fog's mind-control is Rouge the Bat.
