Omochao(pronounced "Oh-mow-chow") is a robotic Chao with a propeller on top of its head. Its name derives from "Omocha"; the Japanese word for "toy". Omochao's primary purpose is to provide information to the player in each level of the game. It will automatically activate if the player touches it or if he/she loses a boss battle for the first time. During this time, it will follow the player until it is finished explaining a certain hint. In its debut in Sonic Adventure 2, it is possible to use Omochao as a projectile by throwing it towards enemies. The player can also inflict harm upon Omochao by throwing it from a far distance or towards an object. However, Omochao will not disintegrate when the player does this. Instead, it will momentarily fall unconscious with smoke bursting from its injured body. When it recovers, Omochao will complain to the player about its mistreatment and claim to no longer provide guidance(though this is false). In Sonic Riders, Omochao is the official announcer and commentator of the competition the characters participate in. In Sonic Generations, the player is able to turn off the option of Omochao explaining the game mechanics.
