Springs(スプリング Supuringu?), also known as Springboards and Jump Springs(ジャンプバネ Janpu Bane?), are one of the most common objects in the Sonic games. These flat surface platforms are typically red or yellow, but its design soon changed to be somewhat similar to Bumpers. The primary purpose of Springs is to propel the character to a higher area of a Stage onto a platform or to get an item. These objects first appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog(game) and has numerous variants.

List of Variants

Catapults(カタパルト Kataparuto?) or Ramps, are red and white colored plates with small springs on the bottom of them. These can propel its user to short or far distances. Catapults first appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and reoccurred in Tails' Skypatrol, Sonic Pocket Adventure, and Sonic Generations(console/PC version).

Pogo Springs(ホッピング Hopping in Japan) are power-ups and the variant of Springs found in monitor/item boxes. These are bouncy red plates connected with blue spiral springs underneath it. When using the Pogo Spring, the player is able to bounce and move at the same time. These are exclusive to Sonic Chaos and Sonic Triple Trouble.

Wide Springs or Long Springs, are Spring variants that first debuted in Sonic Adventure 2. These feature three bumpers side by side within the same platform. In Sonic Heroes, if the player bounces off of one of the springs in a three-setter, it lights up. If the player were to make all three light up, his/her team would get bonus rings, or in some cases, a Power Core to use the team's special move. In Sonic Colors, it introduces yellow colored Wide Springs that do not propel the player as high as the red ones.

Bounce Spinners or Fan Springs, are objects used to propel higher off of the Wide Springs by the character(usually Sonic) performing the Homing Attack and holding the jump button while still in the air. These first debuted in Sonic Adventure 2 and reappeared in Sonic Generations.

Trap Springs made its first appearance in Sonic Unleashed.
