Shahra (シャーラ Shāra?) is a young, eager Genie(a.k.a Djinn) able to grant any simple wish the wielder of her ring desires. She has a long history with Erazor Djinn, whom she has a deep emotional attachment to despite his malicious misdeeds. However, she is focused enough to enlist Sonic the Hedgehog's help to save the World of the Arabian Nights from Erazor and chooses him(Sonic) as her master to grant him access to it. The initial master-and-genie type bond between Sonic and Shahra transcends into a natural friendship, though she still has a habit of calling him "Master" at times.

Story

Shahra first appears to Sonic when he is asleep with a cold. After she introduces herself, she asks the "Legendary Blue Hedgehog" for help in defeating Erazor Djinn, a powerful spirit who is erasing the pages of the Arabian Nights and attempting to break out into Sonic's World. Together they journey into the story via the Lost Prologue, with Shahra appearing as a small pink light during levels when she talks to Sonic (similar to Tikal in Sonic Adventure).

Shahra encourages Sonic to gather all seven of the mysterious World Rings, which said to be the key to "opening the portal between worlds". Her true motive of wanting the rings is only revealed when they(her and Sonic) confront Erazor at the end of the Night Palace; to use the items as an offering to him to possibly return by his side. Sonic makes a wish on the ring to compel Shahra to "do what you think is right!", prompting a last-second change of heart from the genie as she throws herself in front of Erazor's strike, sacrificing her life to save Sonic's.

After Darkspine Sonic defeats Alf-Layla-wa-Layla, Sonic compels Erazor to resurrect Shahra, before consigning him inside his lamp for the rest of time. The Genie of the Ring returns to life weeping with regret for her betrayals; Sonic touchingly wishes a mountain of handkerchiefs for her, mimicking his first wish at the start of the story.
